Can I book airfare through Stitchers’ Escapes?

Since we are primarily event planners and needleworkers, and not a full service travel agency, we are not set up to offer airfare booking.

Royal Caribbean has a program called Air2Sea, through which you can book your airfare. They will make sure that you are booking a flight that meets their recommendations based on the ship’s departure and arrival, and their team will get you to the ship should you miss it due to a flight delay or cancellation. They guarantee the lowest priced fare on your choice of airlines, or they’ll give you 110% of the difference as an onboard credit.

Can I purchase travel insurance through Stitchers’ Escapes?

Since we are primarily event planners and needleworkers, and not a full service travel agency, we are not set up to offer travel insurance.

That said, you never know what life may bring, so we do encourage you to purchase an insurance policy. As Jean mentioned in her Facebook post about insurance for the 2017 group, an insurance agent once told her everyone is insured for every thing in their life…the only question is “who is the insurer?” Because if you don’t have a policy, you are self-insured! Although we are not set up to offer policies ourselves, we suggest the following resources:

Royal Caribbean does offer travel coverage. More information can be found on their website, here: http://www.royalcaribbean.com/contentWithGallery.do?pagename=cruise_insurance. You will need to sign up for coverage through us as part of our group booking. Just email us and let us know you want to add it. We’ll verify the pricing with our coordinator at RCCL, send you a quote, and add the cost to your next invoice.

A few things to keep in mind about this policy:

  • Everyone in your cabin must purchase the policy
  • The policy only covers airfare if you book it through Royal Caribbean’s Air2Sea program. (Read more about that here.)
  • For the 2018 Escape to Europe, if you are joining us for the London Pre-Cruise Extravaganza, expenses associated with that portion of the trip will not be covered

If you buy it through another agency, each person in your cabin can have a separate policy. If you are coming on the London Pre-Cruise Extravaganza, remember to ask if they can cover that portion as well!

We’ve partnered with Kristin Redfield, an Independent Travel Consultant, who can help you with purchasing a policy. Kristin has known our family for nearly 25 years and is one of Jean’s former employees. You can contact her at kristin.redfield@aladdintravel.com or find her on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/pg/RedfieldTravel.

Another online resource with options from a wide variety of providers is https://www.insuremytrip.com/. Even your credit card company may provide coverage.

Regardless of where you obtain coverage, you are responsible for understanding the coverage provided. Stitchers’ Escapes is not able to advise on specific policy details.

Does my cruise fare include a project, or should I just bring my own?

Your cruise fare includes a stitch-along project, as well as the teaching fee for one half-day class aboard the ship. The half-day class will also have a kit fee, which will vary depending on the materials. Our teachers are working on designing their projects now, so we don’t have pricing just yet. Our 2017 classes ranged from $45-$100. You will also be able to sign up for additional classes if you like.

Note that for the 2018 Escape to Europe, these details only apply to the cruise portion. Classes during the Pre-Cruise London Extravaganza are offered a la carte.

What is the best airport to fly in to?

In our opinion, both of the main London airports (Heathrow and Gatwick) are equally good. If you are attending the Pre-Cruise Extravaganza, both have easy options for getting in to the city via train, tube, or taxi.  If you are only coming on the cruise, you’ll find bus transfers to Southampton from Heathrow and bus or train transfers from Gatwick.

General information about transfers can be found here:

Heathrow to London: https://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/heathrow_central_london.htm

Gatwick to London: https://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/gatwick_transport.htm

Heathrow to Southampton: https://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/heathrow_southampton.htm

Gatwick to Southampton: https://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/gatwick_southampton.htm

Will the London Pre-Cruise Extravaganza include a transfer to the ship?

Yes. We have arranged a coach transfer to our ship at the port city of Southhampton with a stop at Stonehenge. The price will include transportation and the Stonehenge admission. Since the 2018 ticket prices have not yet been published, this is our best estimate based on current prices.
$55 per person

If I am not attending the Pre-Cruise Extravaganza, how can I get from the airport to the ship?

General information about cruise port transfers from the main London airports can be found here:

Heathrow: https://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/heathrow_southampton.htm

Gatwick: https://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/gatwick_southampton.htm

We are currently working on more specific recommendations.

Will ground transfers be available after the cruise from Southampton to the airports or to London?

For post-cruise transfers back to the London hotel, we will make arrangements once we know how many people are taking advantage of the post-cruise stay.

For post-cruise transfers back to to Gatwick and Heathrow airports, once we know who is flying when, and from where, we will set up a group shuttle if it’s practical to do so. If not, we’ll have a list of options for booking on your own.

General information about transfers from Southampton to the main airports and to central London can be found here:

Southampton to Heathrow: https://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/heathrow_southampton.htm

Southampton to Gatwick: https://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/gatwick_southampton.htm

How do I pay the PayPal invoice I received?

We use PayPal as our payment processor, but you do not need a PayPal account to submit a payment. Illustrated instructions on how to pay the invoice can be found here: How To – PayPal Payments.

Some invoices are due in full (for example, your initial deposit). Fare balance invoices have the option to make partial payments to give you flexibility to divide up the amount as it fits your budget. The full amount of the invoice is due by the due date.

How is ground transportation arranged?

Ground transportation arrangements vary from cruise to cruise, depending on the needs of the group. For answers about ground transportation for the 2018 Escape to Europe, please see the following answers:
